Finally got my copy of Fallout 3!

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I recently sold my copies of Devil May Cry 4 and Folklore on ebay and made good use of the funds by getting Fallout 3 for the PS3. I’m definitely glad I got this game. I’ve only played for about 9-10 hours so far and I’m loving it. The atmosphere of this game is amazing and engrossing. The last game that I had such an emotional response to was Bioshock.

I think Bethesda made a very appropriate choice selecting Washington DC as the site for this game.  When you discover familiar locations such as the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, it really makes you think about the current state of affairs in our world. Just today I ran into this article about how nuclear weapons use may be more likely in the future. Also, the other thing that really added to the melancholy feel of the game was the fact that we’ve had to keep our windows shut for the last three days due to the ash fallout from the fires in Yorba Linda. My allergies were also acting up really badly and I had also started coughing because of the horrible quality of the air. And this was only from a few brush fires. It made me really think hard and long about wars and their effects (I’m from a war-torn country so I won’t get started on this or it will become a novel in itself).

Another moment in the game that really made me shudder was when I was facing some super mutants and had run out of any stimpaks and anything edible other than human flesh. I was biting my nails and thinking, “God, am I gonna REALLY eat that for a few health points?” Yes, I did, and then let the damn mutants have it. But it was a really, really hard decision.

The dark humor in the game is also entertaining, not to mention the wonderful 40’s soundtrack. So far I’m really loving this game and I suspect it will only get better as I continue playing.

Fable II - The Buggiest XBOX 360 Game Ever?

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

I loved Fable and I have been really looking forward to Fable II. I’ve been reading the numerous reviews on the various gaming sites and it looked really promising. Also, I’ve been checking out Molyneaux’s demo videos and that had gotten my excitement level even higher. I finally was able to scrounge up enough cash three days ago and went and bought the game.

No, I’m NOT buying another PSP!

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Today was the offical launch of the Sony PSP-3000, the third incarnation of the Sony Playstation Portable. Of course I ran out and bought the original PSP on launch day. I still own the original phat PSP and LOVE it. Of course it’s running custom firmware with homebrew capability. Also, when the PSP-2000 (aka PSP slim) came out, I was quick to jump on the bandwagon. I loved the slim form factor and it also made a great present for my wife :) The main reason I wanted it was the ability to connect it to my tv, a feature that the phat PSP lacked. Once plugged into my TV in the bedroom, I then use remote play to control my PS3 downstairs and stream my media to the bedroom. Entertainment magic!

But now Sony wants me to shell out another $200 bucks for an even newer PSP. Sorry Sony, this time it’s not gonna happen. First off, the economy sucks and I’m broke. Second, I already have two PSP’s and my wife will LITERALLY kill me if I buy a third. And third, I really don’t see a reason to buy this one. Yeah, the screen is much nicer and it has a built-in microphone, but hell, who actually USES Skype. It’s funny because there is so much talk about Skype, but I have yet to meet someone who actually uses it. Just about everyone has created a Skype account, but no one that I know is actually using it. Not sure what Sony’s thinking with this version of the PSP, but I can’t think of anything that will justify me buying it. But if you don’t have a PSP already, I can’t recommend this awesome portable enough!

Wipeout HD or How to Induce an Epileptic Seizure

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

I am a huge fan of Wipeout Pure and Wipeout Pulse on the Sony PSP and have been waiting *extremely* patiently for the release of Wipeout HD for the Sony PS3. After numerous delays it finally arrived last Thursday, September 25th, 2008. Of course I immediately purchased it from the Playstation Store at $19.99.

As soon as you start the game you’re greeted with the health warning. Now this is a LONG health warning, the longest I’ve seen in any game. You actually have to scroll down to read it all. No, I didn’t read it all, but the gist of it is that you better have a strong stomach and preferably play on an EMPTY stomach because this game will make you queasy!

FIFA 09 Soccer First Impressions

Friday, September 19th, 2008

I’m addicted to FIFA 08 on my PS3 and I was pleasantly surprised to see the FIFA 09 download on the Playstation store yesterday. I had completely forgotten that the game is due to be released on October 14th, which is just around the corner (and will make a great birthday present to myself!).

I got a chance to take it for a spin yesterday and here are my first initial impressions:
