Finally got my copy of Fallout 3!
November 20th, 2008 by Tam I MI recently sold my copies of Devil May Cry 4 and Folklore on ebay and made good use of the funds by getting Fallout 3 for the PS3. I’m definitely glad I got this game. I’ve only played for about 9-10 hours so far and I’m loving it. The atmosphere of this game is amazing and engrossing. The last game that I had such an emotional response to was Bioshock.
I think Bethesda made a very appropriate choice selecting Washington DC as the site for this game. When you discover familiar locations such as the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, it really makes you think about the current state of affairs in our world. Just today I ran into this article about how nuclear weapons use may be more likely in the future. Also, the other thing that really added to the melancholy feel of the game was the fact that we’ve had to keep our windows shut for the last three days due to the ash fallout from the fires in Yorba Linda. My allergies were also acting up really badly and I had also started coughing because of the horrible quality of the air. And this was only from a few brush fires. It made me really think hard and long about wars and their effects (I’m from a war-torn country so I won’t get started on this or it will become a novel in itself).
Another moment in the game that really made me shudder was when I was facing some super mutants and had run out of any stimpaks and anything edible other than human flesh. I was biting my nails and thinking, “God, am I gonna REALLY eat that for a few health points?” Yes, I did, and then let the damn mutants have it. But it was a really, really hard decision.
The dark humor in the game is also entertaining, not to mention the wonderful 40’s soundtrack. So far I’m really loving this game and I suspect it will only get better as I continue playing.

The main game quest is fairly short, and you will miss out on SOOOO much if you just follow it. Explore … travel around .. when you see some big, destroyed building or monument, head over to check it out. There is nearly always something interesting to find. The game is all about the exploration and discovery. Dont short yourself by following only the main quest
Ive played it probably 30+ hours now, and have only done about 2 hours of the main quest. And I have still only uncovered a small portion of the map.

I’m glad you recommended this game because I really love it. I rarely do the main quests first and always set out exploring. I did a LOT of exploring in Oblivion and got to the head of all the guilds before finishing the main quest. Fallout definitely has a ton of stuff to explore. I really like having the V.A.T.S. option and tend to use it quite often at close range. Gotta love the gory heads flying off! Of course I made sure to get the Bloody Mess perk to further enhance the gore.
I know you had mentioned some lockup issues, but I haven’t had any issues so far, but then again I only get to play about 2-3 hours at a sitting. Also, Bethesda did announce that a patch would be coming to address some of the bugs, so hopefully that should iron out any issues.

I have clocked over 50+ hours now, still have not even continued the main quest and only have about 1/4 of the map explored in depth.

I’m currently on a quest for bigger and badder weapons! As far as leveling up, I’m only between level 7 and 8 but have gotten some of the basic useful weapons like the flamer and minigun. I’ve found a few of the mini nukes but haven’t got the launcher yet. Most of my last excursion was at the Nuka Cola factory that I just found. But yeah, I have a ton of places to explore. I don’t think I’ve even explored 1/4 of the map yet.
